VIE

Vienna International Airport

Vienna, Austria

Where to start
ÖBB Railjet

From VIE (~18 km out), the ÖBB Railjet reaches Wien Hauptbahnhof in ~16 minutes affordably; the CAT runs non-stop to Wien Mitte (~16 min, premium, with a city check-in perk); the S-Bahn S7 is the lowest-cost. For door-to-door, Vienna has a regulated fixed taxi fare from the official rank (up to 4 people), and Uber/Bolt/Free Now pick up at the K3 short-stay car park. Don't accept an inflated 'flat fare' from a tout inside the terminal — use the licensed rank or an app.

Pickup Guidance

Rideshare

Uber, Bolt, and Free Now operate, picking up at the designated ride-share zone in the K3 short-stay car park in front of the terminal (~5–10 min walk). Follow the in-app pin.

Taxi

Regulated fixed fare to the city (up to 4 passengers + luggage) from the official rank outside arrivals. Licensed taxis are metered — if a driver refuses the meter, use another. Avoid unmetered touts inside the arrivals hall quoting flat rates.

Shuttle

Postbus and regional coaches serve suburban connections from outside the terminal.

Transit

Train station directly beneath the terminal (follow 'Trains/Bahn' signs): ÖBB Railjet to Wien Hauptbahnhof (~16 min, affordable); CAT non-stop to Wien Mitte (~16 min, premium, city check-in perk); S-Bahn S7 to Wien Mitte (~25 min, lowest-cost). Sept 2026–Oct 2027: CAT replaced by a bus and S7 starts from St. Marx — take the Railjet.

Private Transfer

Pre-booked transfers and SIXT Ride meet you in arrivals with a name sign — door-to-door, good for families and groups.

Local Tips

  • Don't take an inflated 'flat fare' from a tout inside the terminal — Vienna has a regulated fixed taxi fare (much lower) from the official rank, plus Uber/Bolt. Use the licensed rank or an app.
  • The Railjet costs a fraction of the CAT for nearly the same time — only pay for the CAT if you want the Wien Mitte city check-in or the extra luggage comfort.
  • For a group of 3–4, the fixed-fare taxi often beats per-person train tickets and is door-to-door.
  • Sept 7, 2026 to end of October 2027: the CAT is replaced by a bus and the S7 starts from St. Marx — take the ÖBB Railjet for rail; road options (taxi/Uber/Bolt) are unaffected.
  • A Vienna-only transport pass doesn't cover the full trip to the airport — the airport is outside the city zone, so buy the right ticket.

Tarmyq local tip

Skip the pricier CAT unless you want the Wien Mitte city check-in — the ÖBB Railjet covers nearly the same distance in the same time for far less. And note the 2026–2027 rail works: during that window, the Railjet (or a taxi/Uber) is your most reliable bet.
