Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore, Singapore

Where to start
Grab / Taxi from the rank / MRT

Taxi from the official rank (Terminals 1–4 arrival areas) and Grab are both excellent — Singapore taxis are metered with airport plus time-based surcharges. Uber does not operate in Singapore, so install Grab before you arrive. The MRT is lowest-cost: from T1 take the free Skytrain to T2, from T4 take the free shuttle bus.

Pickup Guidance

Rideshare

Grab is the dominant ride-hailing app (Uber sold its Southeast Asia business to Grab in 2018 and no longer operates here). Gojek, TADA, and Ryde also operate. Pickup zones vary by terminal — follow Grab's in-app airport pickup instructions and venue photos before you walk. Terminal 1 has Basement 1 pickup options; T2, T3, and T4 each have their own designated zones.

Taxi

Official metered taxi stands are in the arrival areas of Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4 — clearly signed, with a dispatcher organizing the queue. Several companies (ComfortDelGro, SMRT, Premier) all run the meter; airport and time-based surcharges apply (peak hours, late-night, public holidays). No haggling.

Shuttle

No public airport shuttle bus. Some hotels run paid shuttle services — check directly with your hotel. For the city, the MRT or a taxi is preferred.

Transit

Changi Airport MRT station (East-West / Green Line) sits under Terminals 2 and 3. From T1, follow 'Skytrain' signs for the free internal Skytrain; from T4, take the free shuttle bus to T2 first. Tap in with an EZ-Link card, contactless bank card, or NETS FlashPay. Runs roughly 05:30–23:30.

Private Transfer

Pre-booked private transfers and GrabExec (premium tier) wait at arrivals with a name sign — convenient with heavy luggage or for families.

Local Tips

  • Uber does not operate in Singapore — install Grab (or Gojek) before you fly, as registration is easier on strong Wi-Fi.
  • Grab's in-app 'Venues' feature shows photos of the exact Changi pickup spot — useful given the airport's size.
  • From Terminal 4 you cannot board the MRT directly — take the free shuttle bus to Terminal 2 first.
  • Singapore taxis are metered but carry an airport surcharge plus time-based surcharges (late-night and peak hours) — factor that in versus the MRT.
  • All terminals are connected airside by the free Skytrain, so you can transit between T1, T2, and T3 without clearing immigration.

Tarmyq local tip

If you've never been to Singapore, expect to use Grab, not Uber. Install it before your flight — the app needs a verification and registration step that's much easier on strong Wi-Fi.
