The AREX express train is the fastest, lowest-cost way into Seoul — the Direct Express reaches Seoul Station in about 43 minutes. For a door-to-door ride, download Kakao T before you land: it's Korea's dominant app and books licensed taxis directly. For Kakao T and Uber, go to the designated taxi and ride-hailing area on the arrivals level (B1 floor in T1, Level 1 in T2). In T1, follow signs to the taxi zone — the call-taxi and app-based taxi lanes are clearly marked. Download Kakao T and set up payment before you arrive, as registering a foreign card can fail.

Taxi

Licensed taxis (white standard, yellow Jumbo, black premium) are on the B1 arrivals level in T1 and the Ground Level in T2. Use the metered taxi queues — do not accept offers from touts inside the terminal. A night surcharge applies midnight–04:00.

Shuttle

Airport limousine buses (KAL Limousine and others) depart from the arrivals level outside both terminals, covering central Seoul and major hotel districts. Buy tickets at kiosks near the exits — far more affordable than a taxi for solo travellers.

Transit

AREX (Airport Railroad Express) departs from the basement of both T1 and T2. The Direct Express (논스톱) reaches Seoul Station in about 43 minutes with reserved seats; the more affordable All-Stop train is slower but stops at Hongik University (Hongdae), City Hall, and Seoul Station.

Local Tips

  • Download Kakao T before you land — it's the dominant ride-hailing app in South Korea and far more available than Uber. Registering a foreign card can fail, so set up payment in advance.
  • ICN has two terminals (T1 and T2) — check your airline's terminal before booking ground transport. Korean Air, Delta, and Air France use T2; most others use T1.
  • The AREX Direct Express to Seoul Station (about 43 min) is excellent value — your ticket includes a free luggage storage service at Seoul Station.
  • Night rides (midnight–04:00) carry a 20% surcharge on all metered taxis.
  • The free inter-terminal shuttle runs every 5–10 minutes and takes about 15 minutes between T1 and T2.
