FLL

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

Fort Lauderdale, United States

Where to start
Uber / Lyft or Taxi

FLL is close to everything — ~3 mi from downtown Fort Lauderdale and Port Everglades cruise port, ~25 mi from Miami. Uber and Lyft pick up in reorganized zones (during the airport's expansion) — Terminal 1 near the taxi podium (Zone Z), Terminal 2 at GTA-2, and Terminals 3 & 4 in the Palm Garage (first floor, south end, Zones A–D) — follow the “Ride App Pickup” signs and your app's assigned zone; metered taxis wait outside each baggage claim. For Miami/West Palm, Brightline is fast and comfortable — but its station is downtown, reached by a free-standing airport-connector shuttle, not at FLL. Tri-Rail (via a free airport shuttle to its station) is the cheap FLL↔Miami option. The cruise port is a short, inexpensive rideshare away. International arrivals are all at Terminal 3. Confirm you're at FLL, not Miami (MIA) or Palm Beach (PBI).

Pickup Guidance

Rideshare

Uber and Lyft pickup zones were reorganized during FLL's expansion — follow the “Ride App Pickup” signs and your app's assigned zone: Terminal 1 near the taxi podium (Zone Z), Terminal 2 at GTA-2, and Terminals 3 & 4 in the Palm Garage (first floor, south end, Zones A–D; cross the pedestrian crosswalk from T3/T4). Follow current signs over older “innermost curb” directions. Surge on weekend nights/events.

Taxi

Metered taxi stands wait outside each terminal's baggage claim (lower level), 24/7. Regulated fares; downtown Fort Lauderdale and Port Everglades are both short, inexpensive hops.

Shuttle

The Brightline Airport Connector Shuttle runs from the terminal Ground Transportation Areas (~7 AM–8 PM) to the downtown Brightline station; hotel and cruise shuttles serve Port Everglades and nearby hotels.

Transit

For a cheap FLL↔Miami trip, take the free airport shuttle to the FLL/Dania Beach Tri-Rail station, then commuter rail to Miami (incl. MIA) and West Palm. Brightline (via its connector shuttle to the downtown station) is faster/comfier to Miami/West Palm (~30 min). BCT Route 1 buses run from the Rental Car Center to downtown and the beach.

Private Transfer

Pre-booked car services and cruise/hotel shuttles serve Port Everglades (~3 mi) and area hotels — book in advance, especially on busy cruise weekends.

Local Tips

  • Uber/Lyft pickup zones moved during FLL's expansion — follow the current “Ride App Pickup” signs and your app's zone, not older “innermost curb” directions. For Terminals 3 & 4, pickup is now in the Palm Garage (first floor, south end, Zones A–D).
  • The Brightline station is downtown, not at the airport — you must take the Brightline connector shuttle (from the terminal GTAs) to reach it. For Miami/West Palm it's a fast, pleasant ride once you make that link.
  • For a cheap FLL↔Miami connection, use Tri-Rail — a free shuttle takes you from the terminals to the Tri-Rail station, and the train runs all the way to Miami International (handy if you're connecting between FLL and MIA).
  • International arrivals are all at Terminal 3 — clear customs there, then head to ground transport on the lower level.
  • The cruise port (Port Everglades) is ~3 mi away — a quick rideshare/taxi or cruise shuttle; cruise weekends make FLL very busy, so allow extra time.
  • FLL ≠ MIA ≠ PBI: Miami International is ~45 min south, Palm Beach ~45 min north — confirm your airport code, especially for cruise/connection timing.

Tarmyq local tip

FLL is refreshingly close-in — downtown and the cruise port are both about three miles away, so a quick Uber, Lyft, or taxi does the job. Just follow the “Ride App Pickup” signs and your app's zone, because pickup spots moved around during the airport's expansion — for Terminals 3 & 4 you head into the Palm Garage (first floor, south end, Zones A–D). Heading to Miami? Brightline is the comfy pick, but remember its station is downtown — you take a connector shuttle from the terminals to reach it. On a budget, Tri-Rail's free airport shuttle gets you to the train for a cheap ride all the way to Miami.
