MTA Light RailLink at the terminal / free shuttle to BWI Rail Station for Amtrak and MARC

For Baltimore's Inner Harbor and Camden area, the MTA Light RailLink station is at the terminal itself, on the lower level next to Concourse E. For Amtrak or MARC — the fast route to Washington, Philadelphia and New York — take the free 24-hour shuttle from the lower level to BWI Rail Station, roughly a five-minute ride, running about every 10–15 minutes.

Rideshare

The outer curb of the Departures / Upper Level, between Doors 5 and 12 — go up from baggage claim, not out. Crosswalks are near Doors 5, 7, 8, 11 and 12. This is the single most common mistake at BWI: arriving passengers wait on the lower arrivals curb where app rides cannot collect.

Shuttle

The free BWI Rail Station shuttle runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, roughly every 10–15 minutes (about every 25 minutes between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.), collecting on the lower level outside baggage claim at four designated stops. Rental car shuttles and long-term/economy parking shuttles use the lower-level inner curb at their own signed doors.

Transit

MTA Light RailLink — station on the lower level of the terminal, next to Concourse E (doors 17 and 18), no shuttle needed. Trains run roughly every 15–30 minutes north toward Baltimore's Camden and Inner Harbor areas and on to Hunt Valley. Amtrak and MARC Penn Line use BWI Rail Station, reached by the free shuttle. MTA bus Route 75 and commuter Route 201 also serve the airport.

Pre-booked cars use the commercial curb; confirm the door number with your operator, since BWI's horseshoe layout makes door numbers more useful than "arrivals."

Local Tips

  • Light RailLink and Amtrak/MARC are two different systems serving different destinations. Light Rail is at the terminal; Amtrak and MARC need the shuttle. Decide which before you leave baggage claim.
  • Rideshare is the one mode that sends you upstairs. Taxis, shuttles and Light Rail are all at or below arrivals level; app rides are on the Departures curb above.
  • The rail shuttle runs all night, though less frequently between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Concourses A/B/C and D/E are separate secure zones with no connection airside — relevant if you're connecting, not just arriving.
  • Southwest operates the large majority of flights at BWI, so most arrivals cluster around Concourses A and B.
  • Buy MARC tickets on the CharmPass app before boarding; it's faster than buying at the station.
  • BWI is a genuine alternative airport for Washington as well as Baltimore — MARC and Amtrak both run to Union Station, and for some destinations that beats driving.
